2013 Meet the Firms event will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013, 6-8 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center on campus of Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois. This event was an opportunity for actuarial employers to present themselves to students and collect students' resumes for internships and jobs. The 2013 Research Event of the Actuarial Program of Illinois State University was a lecture by James M. Carson of the University of Georgia on moral hazard (arson). Professor Carson is the Amos Professor of Insurance at the University oif Georgia, and was previiously at Florida State University (2001-2011) and Illinois State University (1993-2001). The lecture was held at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, in State Farm Hall of Business Caterpillar Auditorium, i.e., room 139.
The 2013 Actuarial Banquet for actuarial students at Illinois State University was held on Monday, April 22, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. in the Bloomington/Normal Marriott Hotel. Mr. Chad Kleindorfer, FSA, alumnus of our program and an actuary at Reinsurance Group of America was the speaker at our banquet.
The Actuarial Club held its elections for the 2013/2014 Club officers on Monday, April 15, 2013, in room 401 in Stevenson Hall at 6 p.m. Following the election, there was a night of bowling at the Bowling and Billiards Center at the Bone Student Center, 6:30 -- 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Stevenson Hall room 401A, in the time period 6:00 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m., the Actuarial Club hosted a Pinnacle Actuarial Resources Night, during which Luann Anderson and a group of actuaries from Pinnacle Actuarial Resources spoke to interested students.
On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Stevenson Hall room 401A, in the time period 7:00 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m., the Actuarial Club hosted a Country Financial Night, during which actuaries from Country Financial, Aaron Hillebrandt, David Prevo, Michael Suess, and Matthew Erickson spoke to interested students.
On Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Stevenson Hall room 401, in the time period 6:00 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m., the Actuarial Club hosted a State Farm Night, during which actuaries from State Farm, Angela Sparks and Will Nussbaum spoke to interested students.
On Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in Stevenson Hall room 401, in the time period 7:00 p.m. -- 8:30 p.m., the Actuarial Club hosted an Internship Forum, during which our students who have had actuarial internships shared their advice and experience with all interested students.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a visit by actuaries from Mercer, who discussed work in a consulting company, and what their own jobs and careers were like.
On Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a presentation by Dr. Krzysztof Ostaszewski on how the program supports our students.
On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the Actuarial Club will be hosting their Annual Bowling Night social, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Bowling and Billiard Center on campus. All interested students are welcome.
On Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a presentation by Mr. Brandon Stevens,who discussed actuarial exams preparation techniques. Mr. Stevens' presentation is here.
On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401A, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a visit by Mr. Richard Bill, FCAS, MAAA, our alumnus, a consultant, former Chief Actuary at Country Financial, who spoke on catastrophe insurance. On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a visit by Ms. Luann Anderson of Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, who spoke about preparing a resume, preparing for interviews and planning an actuarial career.
On Friday, October 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hoste a visit by Mr. Erich Brandt, FCAS, MAAA, actuary at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, an alumnus of our program, as a part of celebration of Alumni Day at Illinois State University.
On Monday, October 1, 2012, at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a visit by Mr. Jay Hieb, FCAS, MAAA, actuary at State Farm Insurance, who made a presentation about Telematics.
The 2012 Actuarial Career Fairs were held on Wednesday, September 24, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois, and Monday, October 1, 2012 in Normal, Illinois. These annual fairs are primarily intended for high school students, but are open to college students, and anyone else seeking to learn about the actuarial career. These are not employment events, but rather meetings designed to provide information about the actuarial career. No resumes are accepted. The events were held:

On Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. in People's Park on campus of Illinois State University, the Actuarial Club hosted a picnic.
On Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 325, Corin Chapman, FSA, MAAA and Jim Gallagher, ACAS, MAAA, actuaries from State Farm, explained how to prepare a good resume, and reviewed and critiqued resumes of our students.
On Monday, August 27, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401A, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a presentation about our Actuarial Program by Dr. Krzysztof Ostaszewski on how the program supports our students.
The 2012 Research Event of the Actuarial Program of Illinois State University was a lecture by Professor Etti Baranoff of Virginia Commonwealth University on systemic risk. Professor Baranoff is also the Research Director for Insurance and Finance at the Geneva Association, the International Association for the Study of Risk and insurance Economics. The lecture was held at 4 p.m. on May 11, 2012, in State Farm Hall of Business Caterpillar Auditorium, i.e., room 139.
