On Sunday, May 7, 2017, 5-8PM in STV 401 and 401A, the Actuarial Club hosted a study night for everyone. STV 401 will be use for study groups and 401A will be used for quiet individual study. Actuarial Clubwill provide everyone with ice cream as well as other treats and beverages. Dress will be casual. All students welcome.
We will hold our annual Actuarial Banquet on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel in Normal, Illinois. Our speaker will be Mr. T.J. Turner, FSA, actuary at CUNA Mutual and our alumnus. All students are welcome, but we ask that you RSVP by sending an e-mail to Susan Mitchell, firstname.lastname@example.org. If you reserve, please treat this commitment seriously and show up (cancel at least a week before the even if you cannot come).
We will hold our annual Actuarial Research Event on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 101. Professors Ken Clements and Nerida Ellerton of the Deparment of Mathematics at Illinois State University will give a lecture entitled: “Nathaniel Bowditch: A great early U.S. mathematician and navigator, who earned his living through insurance.” This event is open to the public and everyone is welcome.
On Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 6 p.m., in STV 401, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club will host a presentation by Mr. Gary Wang of Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, on stochastic reserving .Pizza and soft drinks will be provided. All students are welcome.
Time and location to be determined. Ms. Judy Cheng, President of the Actuarial Club, will speak about the recent changes in examinations and the differences between SOA and CAS now. All students are welcome. Dress will be casual.
On Monday, April 10, 2017, at 6PM in STV 401, representatives from State Farm are bringing in Twin City Trivia for the Club. Come and have fun along with becoming better connected with State Farm. Dress will be casual and pizza and soft drinks will be provided by State Farm. All students welcome!
On Monday, April 3, 2017, at 6:15PM in Schroeder Hall 138, the club will hosted the Spring How to Pass Presentation. Study methods, advices and tips were shared with club in hopes of helping our students study for and pass Actuarial exams. Afterwards, the students headed over to the Bowling and Billiards Center for bowling and pizza.
On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, we hosted a visit by a delegation from Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, representing several insurance companies loatced in Northeast Indiana, currently hiring in many areas, including actaurial science. An open forum for students, with pizza and soft drinks, was held at 1:30 p.m. in STV 401.
On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 6 PM in STV 401, Mr. Aaron Hillebrandt, an alumnus of our program, gave our Club a presentation on Captives.

On Monday, March 6, 2017, at 6:30 PM, in STV 401, there was a brief general meeting where Ms. Judy Cheng updated the Club on the upcoming Actuarial Club elections as well as other upcoming events. Then, Mr. Charles Johnson of State Farm, and an alumnus of our program, shared his experiences on transition from college to working.
On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, Mr. Erich Brandt, Mr. Greg Fears and Ms. Nicole McArdle, actuaries at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, and alumni of our program, made a presentation about Workers' Compensation system.
On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 6:30 PM in STV 401, representatives from COUNTRY Financial gave a presentation on rate indications and rate developments. This was a very informative and helpful event for all actuarial students. Dress was business casual. All students welcome.
On Friday, February 3, 2017, at 6 PM, Mr. Joshua Collier,Actuarial Club Vice President of Volunteer Activities, along with a group of our actuarial students partiipated in the Night in a Car event hosted by Home Sweet Home Ministries. All money raised went towards helping the homeless.
On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in STV 101, we held our First Spring General Meeting of the semester. On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 6 p.m., in STV 131, the Actuarial Program and the Actuarial Club hosted a presentation by State Farm actuaries, Ms. Sabrina Weislak and Ms. Ashley Michelussi discussed actuarial practice in reserving.
