Actuarial Research Event 2024: Seminar Presentation, 2:00 pm – September 27, 2024 on Zoom

On Friday, September 27, 2024, 2 p.m. Central Time, in our Actuarial Research Event, we will have a a seminar presentation about his research by our alumnus, Mr. Ernest Aboagye, ASA, who is finishing his Ph.D. at Georgia State University. This will be our 2024 Actuarial Research Event.

AON Presentation, 6:00 – 7:00 pm – April 24, 2024

A team from AON consulting company will provide an overview of working for a consulting company, and specific things that actuaries at AON do. This event will be live, in person, in Stevenson Hall room 308.

CNA Presentation, 6:00 – 7:00 pm – April 17, 2024

Our alumni, Josh Collier, FCAS, and Allie Walker, FCAS, provided an overview of CNA lines of business and different things actuaries employed at CNA do, with emphasis on commercial property and casualty insurance work. This event was live, in person, in Stevenson Hall room 120.

Milliman FRM Presentation, 4:00 pm – April 11, 2024 (Virtual)

Milliman representives discussed the concept of Financial Risk Management and what actuaries on the FRM team at Milliman do.

Student-Alumni Picnic, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm – April 6, 2024 at People’s Park

Stop by to meet ISU actuarial alumni and have fun with other students! Potbelly sandwiches and snacks!

General Meeting, 7:00 – 8:00 pm – April 1, 2024 in STV 401

In this General Meeting officers of the Club went over the monthly calendar and held an Internship Panel. This was an opportunity to ask our officers about any questions you may have about actuarial internships (how to prepare, relocation, networking, etc.) or anything else related to the actuarial career.

Cigna Affordable Health Care, 6:00 – 7:00 pm – March 27, 2024 in STV 210

Our alumnus, Mr. Justin Garber, FDA gave a presentation about how the healthcare industry is working to make care more affordable, specifically how actuaries are involved in this process. This event was held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in Stevenson Hall room 210 from 6:00 till 7:00 PM.

Healthcare 101, 7:00 – 8:00 pm – March 25th in STV 210

Our alumnus, Mr. Scott Damery, ASA, from Blue Cross Blue Shield went over the basics of being a Health Actuary. This included definitions of terms (ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, etc) and what a health actuary does. This event was held on Monday, March 25th, 2024 at STV 210 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

Presentation about Workers Compensation insurance

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 4 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 310, a team of actuaries from Pinnacle Actuarial Resources made a presentation about workers compensation insurance pricing and reserving.

Actuarial Club had a Social Event on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024 in STV 210 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Presentations about Principle-Based Reserving and Reinsurance

On February 29, March 5 and March 7, 2024, at 4 p.m., Ms. Magdalena Diedrich, FSA, of Legal & General Insurance made three presentations about Principle-Based Reserving, and about reinsurance. These presentations were held over Zoom.

Pinnacle Tour + Job Shadow , 10:00 AM – 3:00 pm – March 19th

Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, a consulting firm headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois, had a Tour and Job shadowing for our students on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024 from 10:00 AM till 3:00 PM.

Gamma Iota Sigma General Meeting, 6:30 – 7:45 pm – March 5th in SFHB 366

Gamma Iota Sigma General Meeting was held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 in SFHB 366 from 6:30 to 7:45 PM.

Sixth General Meeting, 7:00 – 8:00 pm – March 4th

Sixth General Meeting was held on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. This meeting focused on SOA v. CAS comparison, review of possible study materials and went over the new University Earned Credit (UEC) structure. 

Life Insurance 101, 6:00 – 7:00 pm February 28th in STV 221B

Kelsie Rebhan, FSA, from Reinsurance Group of America provided a basic overview of Life Insurance, different products, and the positions available within the industry. The presentation was held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in STV 221B from 6:00 to7:00 PM.

Power of an Inclusive Workforce Presentation, 5:00 – 8:00 pm February 26th at Brown Ballroom.

Gamma Iota Sigma held their annual DEI event this week! on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Brown Ballroom from 5 – 8 pm. It included a career fair, panel discussion, raffle prizes, and free dinner!

How to pass Actuarial Exams Presentation, 6:00 – 7:00 pm – February 20th at STV 221B

Leslie, FSA from State Farm Life, talked about her research on how to pass exams efficiently. She passed 7-8 exams in less than five years. The presentation was on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 in STV 221B.

Professional Development Dinner, 5:00 pm – February 19th at Bone Student Center

Professional Development Dinner was held on Monday, February 19th, 2024 at Bone Student Center from 5:00 PM.

Allianz Presentation, 7:00 – 8:00 pm – February 12th in STV 220

Allianz Life Insurance Company for our students presentation was held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at STV 220 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The presentation discussed Experience Management and Assumption Setting for Life Insurance. This meeting had a virtual option on Zoom.

Fifth General Meeting + Elections, 6:00 – 7:00pm – February 7th in STV 220

The Actuarial club held it’s 5th General Meeting and Elections Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 from 6 to 7 pm in Stevenson Hall room 220.

Bowling Social – February 5th at Bowling and Billiards center

On Monday, February 5, 2024 the Actuarial Club had a Bowling social at the Bowling and Billiards center at 5pm.
