Presentation by our alumnus, Mr. Michael Suess, actuary at COUNTRY Financial

On Friday, October 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 140, our alumnus, Mr. Michael Suess, FCAS, actuary at Country Financial, will make a presentation for students, on his path from  studyiing at Illinois State University to professional actuarial career. All students welcome. Food and soft drinks will be provided by the Department of Mathematics.

A primer on the tools to ensure actuaries' utility in the digitally-enabled insurance marketplace

On Monday, October 1, 2018, at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401A, The Actuarial Club offered an opporptunity to all students to participate in the Society of Actuaries webcast for students at Centers of Actuarial Excellence: A primer on the tools actuaries are mastering to ensure their utility in the digitally-enabled insurance marketplace of the future, by Dorothy Andrews, ASA, MAAA, CSPA

2018 Meet the Firms

2018 Meet the Firms event was held Tuesday, September 25, 2018, 5:30 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m. in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center on campus of Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois. Campus map can be found at: http://www.IllinoisState.edu/map/. This event was an opportunity for actuarial employers to present themselves to students and collect students' resumes for internships and jobs. Humana presentation

On Monday, September 24, 2018, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, representatives of Humana made a presentaton about their company to our actuarial students. Humana generously provided pizza and soft drinks for the students.

Erie Insurance presentation

On Monday, September 24, 2018, at 5 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, our alumnus Mr. Aaron Puntriano of Erie Insurance made a short presentaton about the company to our actuarial students.

Meet the Firms event preparation by Actuarial Club

On Thursday, Septemnber 20, 2018, at 6 p.m., in Stevenson Hall room 401, our Actuarial Club held an event helping students prepare for the Meet the Firms employment event, with special emphasis on new students whio need help preparing resumes and preparing for interviews. Our alumnus, Mr. Charles Johnson, ASA, who works at State Farm Insurance, also provided valuable advice to students.

 

Travelers Insurance visit

Travelers Insurance representatives made a presentation on Wednesday September 19th at 5pm in Williams Hall 001F. They discussed opportunities at their company.

 

Reinsurance Group of America visit

On Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., in STV 401, representatives of RGA made a presentaton about their company to our actuarial students. All students welcome. RGA  graciously provided food for this event.

RLI Insurance visit

On Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 6 p.m., in STV 401, representatives of RLI Insurance made a presentaton about their company to our actuarial students. All students welcome. RLI Insurance  graciously provided food for this event.

Catastrophe Modeling presentation by Ms. Minchong Mao, FCAS, of State Farm Insurance

On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, in Stevenson Hall room 401A, at 6 p.m., Ms. Minchong Mao, FCAS, ASA, MAAA, an actuary at State Farm, made a presentation on catastrophe modeling at State Farm Insurance Companies.

 

Actuarial Club Ice Cream Social: Informational meeting for new students

On Wednesday, August 29 at 6:00pm in Stevenson 401, the Actuarial Club held an ice cream social event and an informational event for new students. All students welcome.

First Fall 2018 Actuarial Club General Meeting

On Monday, August 27 at 6:00pm in Stevenson 101, the Actuarial Club held its first general meeting.

2018 Actuarial Banquet

On Friday, May 4, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. we held our 2018 Actuarial Banquet. This annual event was an occassion to celebrate the end of academic year, and reflect on it. Our guest speaker was Mr. Justin McGetrick, FSA, who is an alumnus of our program and an actuary at Aetna.

2018 Actuarial Research Event

On Friday, May 4, 2018, at 3:45 p.m. in the Caterpillar Auditorium in State Farm Hall of Business, Professor Maochao Xu, who is also a member of our Actuarial Committee, made a presentation on data science and statistical learning. This presentation was open to the public.

Caterpillar Internship and Career Presentation by Ms. Sarah Fabry

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall Room 310, Ms. Sarah Fabry made a presentation about her Caterpillar internship experience. Caterpillar has been hiring more workers to work on various form of data analysis in Peoria. This presentation gave more information about that line of work.

Catastrophe Risk Management Credentialization Program: Presentation by Ms. Minchong Mao, FCAS, ASA, of State Farm Insurance

On Thursday, April 26, 2018, in Stevenson Hall room 101 at 5:00 p.m., Ms. Minchong Mao, FCAS, ASA, an actuary at State Farm Insurance, made a presentation on a new professional credential catastrophe modeling.

Travelers Catastrophe Case Study

Travelers hosted a Case Study for the Actuarial Club on Monday, April 9th through Monday, April 23rd.

Reserving presentation by Ms. Megan Coleman and Ms. Courtney Mumm, actuaries from State Farm

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, Ms. Megan Coleman and Ms. Courtney Mumm, actuaries from State Farm, made a presentation about reservuing in practice. 

Stochastic reserving presentation by Mr. Gary Wang, FCAS, Consulting Actuary at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources

On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, Mr. Gary Wang, FCAS, Consulting Actuary at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources made a presentation on stochastic reserving.

Workers Compensation presentation by Mr. Erich Brandt, FCAS, and Ms. Judy Cheng, actuaries at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources

On Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, Mr. Erich Brandt, FCAS, and Ms. Judy Cheng, of Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, made a presentation about Workers Compensation.

Visit by Humana

On Monday, March 5, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, representatives from Humana health insurance company made a presentation about the company and opportunities available with them. All students welcome. Pizza and soft drinks were made available. On the following day, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Humana held all an day mock interviews to help actuarial students prepare for real job interviews.

Visit by SCOR

On Wednesday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 101, representatives from SCOR Reinsurance Company made a presentation about the company and opportunities available with them.

CAS and Exam Change Info Night

On Monday, February 26th, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Hall room 401, our Casualty Actuarial Society Student Central ambassador Kristen Marshall and her mentor David Holden made a presentation about CAS. They also went over exam changes for both CAS and SOA as well as how these changes affect us as students.

First Spring 2018 Actuarial Club General Meeting

On Monday, February 12th at 6:30pm in Stevenson 101, the Actuarial Club held its first general meeting.Pizza and soft drinks were made provided.
