## Calculus 145 Textbook Options

In MAT 145, we are providing students with several options for a textbook. First, we are using the online system, Enhanced WebAssign. **Access to this system will be required for these courses**. In particular, you will be required to have an access code with access to the e-book *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition* by James Stewart. (Your instructor will also provide you with a class key for this system.) We also require you have a calculator with a computer algebra system and we strongly recommend the **TI-89 calculator**, which should be available for purchase from a number of different retailers. Additional purchases are not required, but are at the student’s option and will depend on individual learning styles, budgets, and intended major/minor.

Access to the Enhanced WebAssign is free for the first 14 days from when the instructor indicates the beginning of the class. **As such, the Mathematics Department is recommending that you delay purchase of materials for your calculus class until you have gone to class and you have had a chance to weigh your options more carefully**.

Below, we discuss the various options available for this course. These are available at the campus bookstores, The Alamo II and Barnes and Noble’s ISU store as well as from the publisher Cengage.

### Purchase Access Code for Enhanced WebAssign with e-Book only

You can purchase an Access Code for Enhanced WebAssign with the e-Book *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition* by James Stewart. (Be sure you purchase the Early Transcendentals version.) You can purchase this at the bookstores here on campus or online from Cengage. Since this includes an e-book, you would not need a physical copy of the text. Use the free 14 day trial to assess your need for the hard copy of the text.

### Purchase Looseleaf Version of Book with Access Code

The publisher, Cengage, is offerring a looseleaf version of the text, *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition* by James Stewart, bundled with an access code to the Enhanced WebAssign system with the e-Book. This bundle is available from Cengage on the special website.

### Purchase Full Book Bundled with Access Code

You can purchase a hard copy of the text, *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition* by James Stewart, bundled with an access code to the Enhanced WebAssign system with the e-Book. This bundle is available from the campus bookstores as well as from the publisher (see the Cengage Brain Page). This is a good option if you think you might be taking MAT 145, MAT 146, and MAT 147 in the next couple of years.

### Purchase Single Variable Book Bundled with Access Code

If you are interested in a hard copy of the text and you are pretty sure you are not going to be taking MAT 147, Calculus III, this is a good option for you. This bundle is available from the campus bookstores as well as from the publisher (see the Cengage Brain Page).

### Purchase Access Code and Book Separately

You could purchase the access code to Enhanced WebAssign with access to the e-book, *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition* by James Stewart, then purchase the hardcopy of either the single variable version or the full version of the text from one of the sources cited above or from an alternate site of your choice.

In particular, you will be required to have an access code with access to the e-book *Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 7th Edition* by James Stewart.
