Majors and minors in the Math Department with advising needs can send an email to the Mathematics department advisor, Drew Hileman cdhilem@IllinoisState.edu. Some students might be assigned a different advisor. The name of a student's advisor will be located on your My Illinois State page after logging in.

Advising for the Major
The Department of Mathematics offers six sequences within the mathematics major: Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics Education, Data Science and Computational Mathematics, Statistics, and Accelerated Mathematics. Following the links below will take you to the corresponding advisement page for that sequence. The requirements listed on these pages are in addition to the University requirements for graduation (such as completion of 120 hours, General Education requirements, 42 senior hours, residency requirements, foreign language requirements, and global studies requirements). For complete official information, please consult your Undergraduate Catalog.

For Teacher Education Majors
As of February 2012, if you are a secondary teacher education major and you want to be highly qualified in mathematics, you must pass the State of Illinois Mathematics Area Content Exam and you must complete 24 credit hours in mathematics content courses that count for major/minor credit of which at least 12 credit hours must be at the 200-level or above.

Advising for the Minor
The requirements for a minor in Mathematics are:
- 22-24 credit hours in Mathematics required
- MAT 145 and MAT 146 required
- At least four courses chosen from: MAT 147, 175, 236, 247, 260, 330, 336, 337, 340, 341, 350, 351, 361, 362, 363, 378. (Note: MAT 350 can be substituted for MAT 250 in the minor with Adviser permission.)
