Math Tutoring Resources and Opportunities
Mathematics Department Tutoring Center
Courses tutored include MAT 108, 113, 119, 120, 121, 144, 145, and 146. Students don’t need an appointment; they can simply drop by during open hours and ask for help. There is room for students to have a seat at a table and study on their own if they like, then ask the tutor on duty for help whenever they have a question.

Math Tutoring Club
Courses tutored include MAT 113 and 120. Our club has two sides, one of which is the tutors who practice and train in the content we cover to become better tutors, and the students who benefit from our work. We are dedicated to being an extra resource for the abundant number of students who take general education mathematics courses. Typically, we hold 1 session per week that is either lecture-style or one-on-one style, depending on student turnout and how many tutors we have available.

MAT 108 Peer Tutor
To support MAT 108 students, the Mathematics Department provides a dedicated tutor skilled in both right-triangle and unit-circle trigonometry.

MAT 145 Peer Mentors
The Mathematics Department maintains a Peer Mentoring program dedicated to Calculus I (MAT 145) students, funded by a generous gift from an alumna donor. Peer mentors attend and actively take part in Calculus 1 classes with their instructor. Peer mentors help students in the Calculus I Tutoring Center throughout the week. Peer mentors also offer office-hours assistance to Calculus I students in their assigned section.

Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center
Through University College, the Visor Academic Center offers free weekly recurring tutoring sessions during the academic semester for select 100-level courses. Tutoring sessions are 50 minutes long and students can sign up by calling, walking into the center, or online via the University College website.
- Covers: MAT 113, MAT 119, MAT 120, MAT 121, MAT 144, MAT 145, MAT 146, MAT 147
- Tutoring method: Weekly group tutoring for most courses. Students need to sign up beforehand. Drop-in tutoring for MAT 121, MAT 145, and MAT 146.
- Location: Visor Center, in the lower level of Hewett-Manchester residence halls
Hours: Group tutoring is at specified times based on the group, while drop-in hours depend on subject. See website for more information. - Contact: VisorCenter@IllinoisState.edu
- Notes: Only location to offer group tutoring, which offers regular weekly sessions with a small group of peers taking the same course. Math Lab
Through University College, the Math Lab also offers free tutoring for students who may benefit from more intensive, sustatined support than traditional options.
- Covers: IDS 102, IDS 104, MAT 113, MAT 119, MAT 121
- Tutoring method: Drop-in only
- Location: SCH 118
- Hours: MTWRF 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

- Notes: The only location that covers IDS 102 and IDS 104. Our tutors are well-equipped to help students who have struggles with math anxiety or need support with core aspects of general mathematical reasoning.
